Obama and Pragmatism (FISA)

Sat Jun 21, 2008 at 01:46:45 PM PDT

The arguments about Obama being pragmatic on FISA are complete and utter bullshit. So I'm not using a strawman, I'll quote from the diary that currently sits atop the rec list:

  1. he avoids creating a rift among Democrats, which the media loves
  1. he deprives the Republicans of an issue this fall.

What MSNBC Thinks Trumps Impeachment

Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 11:35:12 PM PDT

It is 8:17pm pacific time. Dennis Kucinich has been introducting 35 articles of impeachment to the United States House of Representatives for the last couple of hours. He is still going. He is basically laying out the grievances of a great number of Democratic voters. Voters like me. You would think that the 24-hour news channels would cover it, but no. Not one broke into regularly scheduled programming (that I saw) to cover it.

Even worse. Here are some screen shots from their websites taken around 8:25pm pacific time:

Hillary, You Will Not Win

Sat May 24, 2008 at 08:16:50 AM PDT

I'm not sure how to write this diary. I almost posted it as "Assassinations: Clinton's New Metric." I would have talked about how in this metric, she's tied with Obama. But it's too snarky, and I'm too upset.

I just want to say this: even if Obama is assassinated, you will not be the nominee. You will never be the nominee. The stars aligned for you during this election cycle. You had huge name recognition, polled better than anyone else by far, had a huge money advantage, had early support from tons of superdelegates, etc. But now you are exposed. As some have said, it should have been a surprise that you were unable to lock up even more superdelegates early, and that that should have been seen as a crack in the foundation of your campaign. It wasn't, but hindsight has revealed it.

Dealing with Conflict (Banned at MyDD)

Fri May 23, 2008 at 11:36:55 AM PDT

First off, let me say I'm sorry for the rambling (and mostly pointless) diary. You should only read this crap if you're really bored...

Well, yesterday, it finally happened. My posting abilities were removed at MyDD. I probably deserved it. That place is a delusional community, and I have been openly antagonistic towards it. I have talked about how MyDD would fold as soon as Hillary loses. Still, I was a little surprised that the diary got me banned was about the insanity of the people controlling the electoral maps on their homepage that show Clinton getting 68 more electoral votes than Obama - carrying NC and MO while Obama does not. This is clearly farcical, and not even in the top 10 list of objectional things I've said there.

It Wasn't Because of Sexism

Wed May 21, 2008 at 02:27:20 PM PDT

As has been said in Hillaryland:

What I think it comes down to with many of my fellow HRC supporters, especially women, is the following: They just experienced a long process in which a more qualified woman was passed over for a promotion in favor of a man who is arguably unqualified for this job

The boos for Hillary will stop

Wed May 14, 2008 at 05:21:20 PM PDT

when she stops doing things to deserve them.

Maybe.

She's done an awful lot of things to deserve boos, and many people's longterm perception of her may be permanently damaged by these things. I don't think my perception of her will ever be restored to what it once was. In crunch time she showed that her personal ambition was stronger than her ethics... or that she didn't have the ethics I thought that she did. That's pretty much 'game over' in my book.

But... to her supporters, let's talk about what we have in common, and what needs to be done to advance our common interests. One difference in our judgement of two other people does not make us enemies. There are a lot of progressive causes out there that need action. It's time to get our nominee, Obama, elected. Then, it will be time for us, no matter who we supported, to put pressure on him so that he will make the best decisions to advance our common progressive causes.

Hillary "Wins" in IN by 10, "Ties" in NC

Mon May 05, 2008 at 11:26:05 PM PDT

Sorry for the attention grabbing headline, but that's the kind of bullshit you should expect to hear if the composit pollser.com scores accurately predict the results:

Indiana
  Clinton 49.7
  Obama 43.9

North Carolina
  Clinton 42.2
  Obama 49.9

Why Fox News Has Viewers

Sun May 04, 2008 at 09:11:00 AM PDT

Yes, yes, we all hate Fox News. We know how they are a right-wing propoganda outlet. Unfortunately, this has lead to them actually covering relevant news - they just cover it in a fashion meant to deceive.

Hillary Doesn't Score Knockout Punch in PA

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 11:14:17 PM PDT

Hillary began this primary season with tremendous advantages. She has huge name recognition. She has the same name as the last Democratic president, who was beloved by most of the party... who also happens to be her husband. She had the best fundraisers in the party, headed by Terry McAuliffe. She had also locked up the support of nearly 200 superdelegates. Ever since she has been trying to knock her competition out of the primary.

Hillary's Win! (or Loss?)

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 06:24:44 PM PDT

So, did Hillary Clinton win or lose tonight? Well, that depends on your definition of "win". She certainly did win PA. Unfortunately, she isn't running for President of PA. She's running for the presidency of the United States.

How to Petition for No ABC Debates in the General?

Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 08:54:55 AM PDT

Can we get DailyKos, or MoveOn or someone to start a petition to keep ABC from hosting a general election debate?  Surprisingly, I haven't been able to find one today, and there should definitely be one out there after last night's debacle.

Why Hillary Should Stay In

Sun Apr 13, 2008 at 12:08:11 PM PDT

Hillary Clinton is not going to win the Democratic nomination. Not in 2008. Not in 2012.  Not ever.

Furthermore, she's not going to win the presidency.  Not in 2008. Not in 2012. Not ever.

So why do I think that she should stay in the race?

Binding Us To Iraq?!

Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 05:57:00 PM PDT

Maybe there's something I just don't understand.  Maybe that's what the comments below are for.  Maybe someone can inform me how in the hell this president can make an agreement with Iraq that will bind the next president's hands and force him or her to keep troops in Iraq.  Because I just don't get it.

Caucuses > Primaries (w/ poll)

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 06:47:07 AM PDT

As I periodically do, I was looking back through my comments to see if anyone has replied to anything I've said in the last day or two.  In one thread, I was (sadly, again) arguing that popular vote is a flawed metric because it under represents caucus states, like my homestate, Washington.  I received this reply:

not many people participated in WA because of the stupid system they employed.  I don't see why its unfair to count the people who participated by whatever system was used.

I'd normally just respond, but this is several hours old, and nobody would likely see my response, so I'm putting it here.  I feel the response is an important enough issue for a diary.  My response after the jump...

The Boxing Analogy

Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 10:14:22 AM PDT

I keep hearing the boxing analogy used to describe the Obama/Clinton contest for the Democratic nomination.  "She's going for a knockout punch," "Hillary keeps getting up off the mat," "He has her on the ropes," etc, etc.  Below the fold, I flesh out all the details of this analogy so that hopefully it will never have to be used again...

Americans ARE Smart

Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 09:27:02 AM PDT

If you've read the rec list today, you've seen that Obama has narrowed his PA gap to 10 point.  But that's not the most significant piece of information from the poll.

PA Polls

Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 09:35:01 PM PDT

I'm hesitant to write this because of how pointless the PA polls are right now.  For proof of this you only have to look at about every other poll a few weeks before a contest.  But today I was reading a myDD featured post that pissed me off...
